В британском Гудвуде во время заезда классических автомобилей столкнулись две уникальных гоночных машины 50-х годов – Lister-Jaguar Knobbly и Mercedes-Benz 300 SLS "Porter Special", сообщает издание Motoring Research. Газета Daily Mail оценивает суммарную стоимость двух машин в пять миллионов фунтов стерлингов (около 7,5 миллиона долларов).
Авария случилась во время квалификационного заезда. Особый Mercedes-Benz 300 SLS 1955 года выпуска был привезен в Великобританию из музея классических "Мерседесов" в Штутгарте. За рулем машины был знаменитый немецкий пилот Йохен Масс, принимавший участие в Формуле-1 в 70- и 80-х годах. Lister-Jaguar управлял британец Тони Вуд.
Столкновение произошло, когда Вуд замедлился, чтобы повернуть на пит-лейн. Ехавший позади Масс не сумел обойти "Листер" и ударил его сзади. Гонщики не пострадали, однако оба автомобиля получили серьезные повреждения.
У Lister-Jaguar деформировалась задняя часть кузова и был пробит топливный бак. Вытекшее топливо пришлось заливать пеной из огнетушителя во избежание возгорания. У "Мерседеса" сильно пострадала передняя часть кузова, из под которой потекла охлаждающая жидкость.
Оба автомобиля, предварительный ремонт каждого из которых оценили не менее чем в 100 тысяч фунтов стерлингов (150 тысяч долларов), не смогли принять участие в основной гонке.
